Portugal's interior minister Luis Neves urged to explain contractor ties to seized drug‑lab trailer

The Left Bloc (Bloco de Esquerda) demanded that Luis Neves, Portugal's minister of Internal Administration, provide a full explanation today about his relationship with a contractor who possessed a trailer seized during a police operation against drug trafficking. The trailer, found in the contractor's warehouse, also contained drums of chemicals used for processing drugs and was linked to what authorities described as the largest drug laboratory ever dismantled in the country.

Deputy Fabian Figueiredo, who relayed the demand to the news agency Lusa, said the case raises "enormous perplexity" and called for an urgent, comprehensive clarification. He also challenged Education minister Fernando Alexandre to guarantee that no student will be harmed by suspended exam grades and suggested the minister should resign after recent controversies over exam results. Neves, a former director of the Judiciary Police, had previously said he would take different actions regarding the matter.

The bloc described the situation as “film‑like” and urged the public to be informed of the full extent of the issue.
