Portugal's Labour Minister Receives Final Social Security Reform Report

Portugal's Minister of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security, Maria do Rosário Palma Ramalho, received this week the final report of the Working Group for Social Security Reform, which was led by economist Jorge Bravo. The report, delayed from an original January deadline to June 30 due to several contingencies, will be made public in the coming weeks and sent to a range of national and international institutions. It contains proposals, an execution plan, performance indicators and specific short‑, medium‑ and long‑term targets aimed at ensuring the sustainability of the Portuguese pension system. The document draws on the government programme, recent recommendations from the Court of Auditors and the Social Security Green Book. The minister noted that "the reform of Social Security is very complex" and that the report represents an "important independent technical contribution" for future policy discussion.
