Portugal's PSP processes 52,000 airport passengers and imposes 16 Schengen precautionary measures

The Polícia de Segurança Pública (PSP) conducted border checks on approximately 51,980 passengers across Portugal's three main airports by 15:00 on Sunday. The operation included 56 interceptions and the application of 16 precautionary measures to comply with Schengen regulations, with no entry refusals recorded.

Wait times varied: at Lisbon's Humberto Delgado Airport the maximum wait was 32 minutes for arrivals and 14 minutes for departures; at Porto's Sá Carneiro Airport up to 55 minutes for arrivals and 35 minutes for departures; and at Faro's Gago Coutinho Airport up to 30 minutes for arrivals and 35 minutes for departures. A reinforced human and technical presence was introduced at Lisbon airport on 29 May to alleviate queues.

The new European Entry/Exit System (EES), fully operational since 10 April 2025, has contributed to longer processing times, prompting the PSP to occasionally suspend biometric data collection in exceptional cases where wait times become excessive.
