Portugal's SNS introduces digital registration status checks
The Central Administration of the Health System (ACSS) has launched a new feature on the SNS 24 app and portal, allowing users to verify their status within the National Register of Users (RNU). This tool enables citizens to check their registration type quickly and securely without visiting a health unit.
The registration status is critical for primary healthcare enrollment, eligibility for family health teams, and healthcare funding. The RNU now categorizes users into five types: updated registration, updated non-resident registration, registration in progress, incomplete registration, and historical registration.
Users identified with an incomplete or in-progress status are advised to visit a primary or hospital healthcare unit with necessary documentation to update their mandatory data. In-person updates are required to confirm identity and ensure data reliability. The updated non-resident status, applicable to Portuguese citizens living abroad with complete data, does not affect their right to access SNS healthcare or financial coverage.
