Portugal National Health Service digital service expansion
Overview
The Portuguese National Health Service (SNS) has implemented new initiatives to improve digital access and administrative efficiency for citizens. In the Cascais municipalities of Carcavelos e Parede and São Domingos de Rana, new SNS 24 service counters have opened to provide telehealth and digital support. These centers assist residents with scheduling appointments, viewing exam results, and managing prescriptions, specifically targeting those who struggle with digital tools.
Additionally, the Central Administration of the Health System (ACSS) launched a new feature on the SNS 24 app and portal. This tool allows users to verify their status within the National Register of Users (RNU). The system now categorizes users into five distinct registration types, including updated, non-resident, in progress, incomplete, and historical. Users with incomplete or in-progress statuses are directed to visit healthcare units in person to update mandatory documentation and confirm their identity.
