The Solidarity Supplement for the Elderly (Complemento Solidário para Idosos) in Portugal is not automatically granted to eligible pensioners; individuals must actively apply to receive it.

For 2026, the reference value for those living alone has increased to 8,040 euros per year, approximately 670 euros per month. The supplement is designed to bridge the gap between a pensioner's annual income and this state-defined minimum. Eligibility requires reaching the standard retirement age, which is 66 years and nine months in 2026, and residing in Portugal. Disability pensioners may apply at any age, provided they do not receive the Social Inclusion Benefit.

A significant policy change implemented in June 2024 means that children's income is no longer factored into the calculation. Previously, this requirement often disqualified applicants. Those who were denied support prior to this change due to their children's earnings are now eligible to reapply. However, the income of a spouse or domestic partner still counts toward the assessment. Asset limits also apply to movable property such as deposits and stocks, though the applicant's primary residence is excluded from these calculations.
