Portuguese court hands prison sentences to ten drug traffickers in Santarém

The Leiria Court sentenced ten defendants, including five to effective imprisonment, for drug trafficking offenses. The heaviest sentence, five years and nine months, was imposed on a 49‑year‑old man convicted of trafficking heroin, cocaine and hashish and driving without a license. Other sentences ranged from three years and five months to five years and six months, with some suspended sentences under probation.

The court found the defendants, aged 20 to 59, knowingly bought, stored, and sold large quantities of narcotics, targeting numerous customers for profit. The operation, linked to residences in Mira de Aire and Porto de Mós, involved a significant seizure of cocaine and heroin worth several thousand euros, along with cash, firearms, and related equipment.

The convictions underscore the Portuguese authorities’ crackdown on illicit drug trade and its impact on public health and safety.
