The Portuguese Parliament has rejected a motion of censure presented by the Chega party against the government led by Prime Minister Luís Montenegro. The motion, which centered on the political responsibility of the administration regarding the retention of Minister of Internal Administration Luís Neves, failed to secure the necessary 116 votes. The Socialist Party (PS) opted to abstain, a move intended to prevent a broader political crisis while still expressing opposition to the executive.

During the parliamentary debate, Prime Minister Montenegro defended the government and the Minister, describing the motion as a 'mere political game'. To regain political initiative, Montenegro announced two major measures: an extraordinary supplement for pensioners and a reduction in IRS income tax for up to the sixth bracket, totaling approximately 400 million euros each.

Minister Luís Neves, who has faced scrutiny over his previous tenure at the Judiciary Police, testified in a parliamentary hearing. He admitted to certain administrative errors regarding income declarations but maintained that he has never harmed the state and refused to resign, stating he would only leave if the Prime Minister deemed it necessary.
