Portuguese government to hold second round of public sector salary talks

The Portuguese government is set to hold a second round of negotiations with three public administration trade unions this Monday to discuss general salary updates for the upcoming year. The meetings, conducted by Secretary of State for Public Administration Marisa Garrido at the Ministry of Finance, are expected to include the presence of Minister of State and Finance Joaquim Miranda Sarmento.

The negotiation schedule includes the Frente Sindical (led by the Sindicato dos Quadros Técnicos do Estado) at 09:00, the Federação dos Sindicatos da Administração Pública e de Entidades com Fins Públicos (Fesap) at 11:00, and the Federação Nacional dos Sindicatos dos Trabalhadores em Funções Públicas e Sociais (Frente Comum) at 16:00.

Under an existing multi-year agreement between the government, Fesap, and STE, public administration base salaries are projected to rise by 2.30% to reach 995.51 euros by 2027. However, unions are demanding higher increases to counter rising inflation rates. Fesap has proposed raising the base remuneration to 1,050 euros by 2027.
