Portugal municipalities mark World Tourism Day with heritage and tech initiatives

Various Portuguese municipalities are organizing events to mark World Tourism Day and European Heritage Days, focusing on sustainability, technology, and cultural preservation.

Vila Viçosa has officially submitted its dossier to the President of the Assembly of the Republic to support its candidacy for UNESCO World Heritage status as a ‘Ducal Seat’. This initiative aims to highlight the town's historical and religious importance as the seat of the House of Bragança.

In Esposende, celebrations include the presentation of the ‘Tourism Esposende 2030’ strategy and a commitment to becoming a Biosphere Sustainable Tourism Destination. Other municipalities, such as Vidigueira, Cantanhede, and Oliveira do Hospital, are hosting forums and seminars specifically addressing the impact of Artificial Intelligence and digital agendas on the future of tourism.

Additionally, the Municipal Museum of Loulé has joined the National Network of Intangible Cultural Heritage (RNPCI), recognizing its efforts in safeguarding local traditions and oral histories. In Évora, the SEDES association will host a debate regarding global uncertainty and territorial protection.
