Portuguese municipalities invest in water and sanitation infrastructure

Municipal water and sanitation services (SMAS) in Portugal are implementing infrastructure improvements to enhance service reliability and water security.

In Almada, SMAS has acquired new 1,000-liter reservoirs to serve as contingency solutions during planned or unplanned water supply interruptions. This strategic move aims to increase system resilience against service failures, particularly during periods of drought or infrastructure maintenance.

In Viseu, SMAS is launching three new projects with an investment exceeding 215,000 euros. These works will take place in the parishes of Rio de Loba, São Cipriano, and Vil de Souto e Mundão. The projects include constructing new basic sanitation networks, reinforcing water supply lines, and installing over one kilometer of domestic wastewater drainage networks to modernize the municipality's public services.
