Portuguese Municipalities Seek Govt Decree for Weather‑Damage Recovery
President of the National Association of Portuguese Municipalities (ANMP), Pedro Pimpão, urged the government to issue an urgent decree that would provide a legal framework for financial aid to repair municipal equipment, infrastructure and roads damaged by recent severe weather. He said, “Alertamos, mais uma vez, para a necessidade urgente de existir um despacho que faça com que os apoios financeiros para a recuperação de equipamentos municipais, infraestruturas e vias possam ter enquadramento.”
Pimpão noted that municipalities have already received an advance payment, but without the decree they cannot formally apply for reimbursement of investments already made or planned for recovery. He also reported that more than two‑thirds of the over 25,000 housing assistance cases are now processed, with the remaining cases expected to be completed in the coming weeks.
