Portuguese teachers report unpaid exam re-evaluation fees

The Missão Escola Pública (MEP) movement has denounced the Portuguese government for failing to pay teachers for the re-evaluation of national exams. Despite a promise from the Ministry of Education, Science, and Innovation (MECI) that payments of 12 euros per exam would be completed by the end of August, many educators report they have yet to receive compensation for the first phase of exams conducted in July and August.

Cristina Mota, spokesperson for the MEP, criticized the discrepancy between official statements and the reality on the ground, noting that while the Minister highlighted a total payment pool of 2.6 million euros, many teachers remain unpaid. The Ministry of Education stated that the National Jury of Exams (JNE) sends payment information to schools, which then process the amounts through salary rubrics. However, the MEP maintains that the vast majority of teachers have not seen these funds.
