Naples ramps up infrastructure for the 2027 America’s Cup

Mayor Gaetano Manfredi described the 2027 America’s Cup as “the most important sport event that will take place in 2027 worldwide” and said the city is in “great ferment” as preparations accelerate. The municipal roadmap includes a complete restyling of the Caracciolo seafront, slated to be finished by November, and a broader strategy to distribute visitor accommodation across the entire Gulf, including the surrounding islands.

Works on the Naples lungomare, begun on Via Nazario Sauro and extending to Via Partenope and Piazza Vittoria, are intended to create a wider bike lane, emergency lanes and a volcanic‑stone surface. The city promises to end the most disruptive works by July and all construction by the end of the year, aiming to ensure safe access for ambulances and fire trucks. The upgrades are positioned as a “slalom” of temporary barriers that will be removed in time for the Cup, which is expected to bring a significant influx of teams, families and international tourists.

Local businesses and residents have raised safety concerns about the narrowed roadways, while the mayor reassured that the schedule will be met and that the improved infrastructure will help the region capitalize on the global event.
