Postal workers in Paraíba face threats and assaults during election material delivery

The Union of Postal and Telegraph Workers of Paraíba (SINTECT-PB) has reported multiple instances of threats and physical aggression against mail carriers during the delivery of election materials in Paraíba, Brazil.

A specific incident occurred in Campina Grande, where a mail carrier was assaulted and threatened while delivering campaign flyers. The incident was recorded on video, and the suspect was reportedly taken by police to provide statements to the Federal Police. The union is providing legal assistance to the victim.

SINTECT-PB emphasized that mail carriers are not responsible for the political content of the mail they deliver, nor do they select the senders or political parties. The distribution of such materials is a legal service provided by Correios, known as 'Mala Direta,' which is available to candidates, political parties, and electoral committees.
