Postal workers in Paraíba protest against violence during mail delivery

Postal workers in Paraíba, Brazil, have staged a protest in João Pessoa following a surge in violence and threats against mail carriers. The Sintect-PB union reported that workers are facing verbal abuse, insults, and physical aggression while delivering mail, including electoral direct mail.

According to Sintect-PB Director-General Tony Sérgio, the violence appears to be a recent wave of intolerance linked to the distribution of political campaign materials. The union has identified several crimes, including physical assault, injury, and harassment. Incidents have been reported in multiple cities, including João Pessoa, Campina Grande, Patos, and São Bento.

The union emphasized that mail carriers are legally obligated to distribute electoral materials and are not responsible for the political content of the mail they carry. The protest in João Pessoa was held on Tuesday morning to demand increased security for workers performing their duties.
