Postbank completes migration of 1.8 million grant beneficiaries to black cards
Postbank has reported that more than 1.8 million social grant beneficiaries have successfully migrated from SASSA gold cards to the bank’s new black cards. This transition represents over 80% of the targeted migrations, achieved ahead of the August 31 deadline.
The bank stated that the migration process is proceeding smoothly without significant challenges. To facilitate the transition, particularly for those in rural areas, card replacement sites have been made accessible at various retail locations where beneficiaries frequently shop.
While conversion volumes have increased in provinces such as the Eastern Cape, Western Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, and Gauteng, Postbank noted that child support grant recipients—often young, mobile mothers—account for approximately 90% of those who have not yet completed the migration. Postbank Chief Commercial Officer Thami Cele confirmed that the migration plan remains on track and is being implemented as intended.
