Postbank faces indefinite strike threat after Verdi declares wage talks failed

The Verdi trade union has declared the wage negotiations with Deutsche Bank, owner of Postbank, deadlocked and is preparing an indefinite strike. About 9,000 Postbank employees are covered, with the union demanding an eight‑percent pay rise or at least €300 per month, and €200 more for trainees.

A ballot on the strike will run from 17 June to 3 July, requiring at least 75 % approval. If passed, the union warns that customers could face service disruptions and longer waiting times. A fourth negotiation round is scheduled for 30 June in Berlin, with Verdi urging Deutsche Bank to present a substantially improved offer. The union also seeks job‑security guarantees, site protection and a legal right to further training, including in artificial‑intelligence fields. Verdi negotiator Jan Duscheck said, "The employer side still has it in its hands to avoid further escalation."
