Poste Italiane cuts summer hours at Trentino post offices, sparking consumer protest

From 1 August to 31 August, post offices in the Trentino province will operate only in the morning, closing their counters in the afternoon. Federconsumatori argues the practice, repeated each summer, burdens workers, the elderly, and residents of small towns, and points to a 30 % staff reduction over ten years (from about 1,200 employees to just over 800). The consumer group calls on Poste Italiane to guarantee continuity of service without shifting the cost onto citizens.

In the coastal town of Tarquinia, both Poste Italiane ATMs have been out of service for a week, displaying the message “Sportello automatico fuori servizio su richiesta dell’elaboratore centrale”. The outage affects tourists at the Lido and locals in the historic centre, adding to the summer‑time inconvenience.

Both incidents illustrate growing service disruptions by the national postal operator during the peak holiday period.
