Polis upgrades, EV network expansion and Smart Building roll
Overview
The Polis programme continues to modernise post offices to support economic and social cohesion in Italian municipalities with fewer than 15,000 inhabitants. Recent renovations and reopenings include offices in Abbadia Lariana and Bosisio Parini (Lecco), Pozzomaggiore (Northern Sardinia), Montepaone Lido, Arquata Scrivia, and Rofrano (Salerno). Most recently, renovated offices in Saracena and Riace have reopened, featuring energy-efficient lighting, new furnishings, and accessibility improvements such as dedicated lanes for the visually impaired and lowered counters.
The Andreotta post office in Castrolibero has also reopened following renovations under the Polis initiative. Located on Via Giovanni Maendola, the facility serves as a hub for traditional postal services and expanded public administration functions. Through agreements with the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy, citizens can manage passport applications or renewals at the counter, with an option for home delivery. The office also provides INPS services, such as pension slips and the ‘OBIS M’ model, as well as civil registry certificates.
Parallel to office upgrades, the electric vehicle charging network is expanding, with 87 active stations in the Abruzzo region and 140 additional stations pending grid connection.
Poste Italiane is also advancing its energy efficiency and ‘Smart Building’ initiatives. During the first half of 2026, the group surpassed 1,000 photovoltaic installations, reaching approximately 1,080 plants with a total capacity of 31,700 kilowatt peak. The company aims to reach 1,300 installations by the end of 2026, with expected annual energy production exceeding 40 gigawatt-hours. The Smart Building project, which utilizes automated sensors to regulate lighting, heating, and ventilation across approximately 6,700 buildings, aims to achieve energy savings of approximately 17 GWh by 2027.
Poste Italiane has also reached a trade union agreement for a 2027–2028 plan to add 1,300 staff and implement 6,300 active employment policies.
