Poste Italiane disables nighttime ATM cash withdrawals to prevent explosive attacks
Poste Italiane has implemented a temporary security measure to disable cash withdrawals from Postamat ATMs during nighttime and evening hours at high-risk locations. This decision follows a series of explosive attacks targeting automated teller machines, which have caused significant damage to both the machines and the buildings housing them.
The company stated that this is a "transitory measure, taken based on a precise risk analysis and aimed at countering attacks with explosives that have devastated numerous post offices." The measure aims to prevent structural damage and service disruptions, particularly in smaller communities where such attacks can leave residents without essential services for weeks. Recent incidents involving such attacks have been reported in the Calabria region, specifically in the province of Cosenza.
