Poste Italiane expands Postamat ATM network with 431 new installations

Poste Italiane has expanded its Postamat ATM network by installing 431 new units during the first half of 2026, bringing the national total to 9,668. This represents an increase of nearly 33% since 2018.

Led by CEO Matteo Del Fante and General Manager Giuseppe Lasco, the expansion aims to mitigate the “progressive banking desertification” occurring across Italy. Data from the Bank of Italy indicates that commercial bank ATMs decreased from over 40,000 in 2018 to just over 36,000 in 2025, while bank branches declined by nearly a quarter.

In five Italian regions—Abruzzo, Basilicata, Calabria, Molise, and Valle d’Aosta—the number of Poste Italiane ATMs now exceeds the total number of ATMs provided by the entire banking system. The company also highlighted its Progetto Polis, an 800-million-euro initiative designed to transform nearly 7,000 post offices in towns with fewer than 15,000 inhabitants into administrative hubs to combat depopulation and support social inclusion.
