Poste Italiane installs over 3,200 EV charging stations across small Italian municipalities

Poste Italiane has installed more than 3,200 electric‑vehicle charging points under the Progetto Polis, a programme that aims to equip roughly 3,500 municipalities with 5,000 stations by 2026. The initiative targets towns with fewer than 15,000 inhabitants, linking public‑administration services to about 7,000 post offices and supporting the ecological and digital transition.

Funding comes from the PNRR complementary plan (€800 million) plus over €400 million contributed by Poste Italiane. The project is expected to generate an impact of €1.061 billion on Italy’s GDP, create €484 million in labor income and 18,600 jobs. The installed stations are spread nationwide – about 35 % in the north, 20 % in the centre, 30 % in the south and 15 % on the islands. Recent local activations in Molise added 17 new points, bringing the regional total to 28, with further installations planned in dozens of other small towns.
