Poste Italiane processes 240,000 passport requests as Polis upgrades revamp post offices nationwide

Poste Italiane reported that 240,000 passport applications and renewals have been submitted through its services, confirming the popularity of the programme. Over 184,000 requests came from municipalities with fewer than 15,000 inhabitants, 80 % of which chose home delivery. About 56,000 applications originated from the 431 large‑city offices, with the Veneto region accounting for roughly one‑third of the total and the province of Verona alone filing around 24,000 requests.

The figures reflect the broader rollout of the “Polis” project, which has modernised more than 5,600 small‑town post offices, introduced 170 coworking spaces and expanded digital public‑administration services. Recent renovations in Praso, Rocca di Neto, Lurago d'Erba and Partanna have added accessible facilities, low‑energy LED lighting, solar panels and specialised counters for passport, INPS and civil‑status services.

Meanwhile, the Brescia area faces a summer staffing shortfall, with around 100 missing postal employees. Unions warn that reduced staff will force hour changes, temporary closures and longer queues at 64 local offices, compounding the impact of ongoing “Polis” works.
