Poste Italiane exceeds 256,000 passport requests nationwide

Poste Italiane has processed 256,487 passport issuance and renewal requests across its network as of 31 July 2026. The service operates in 6,932 small‑town offices under the “Polis” programme and in 431 larger‑city post offices, bringing passport services to municipalities with fewer than 15,000 residents and reducing the need for long trips to questure offices. Fees are €42.70 plus a €73.50 electronic surcharge. The initiative aims to narrow the urban‑rural gap in public‑administrative access. High‑request provinces include Verona (17,123), Bergamo (15,637), Vicenza (15,412) and Monza (10,860). A notable example is Terranova di Pollino in the province of Potenza, where residents previously travelled up to 150 km for a passport. The programme now also serves major cities such as Rome, Milan, Naples and Florence, confirming the expanding role of Poste Italiane in delivering public services.
