Poste Italiane's Polis programme revamps small-town post offices across Italy

Poste Italiane has reopened dozens of small‑town post offices after modernising them under the "Polis" programme, which targets roughly 7,000 Italian communes with fewer than 15,000 inhabitants. The renovated branches – such as those in Parenti, Magnago, Sessa Cilento, San Polo Matese, San Venanzo and others – now feature new furniture, low‑impact lighting, dedicated lanes for low‑vision users and lower‑energy installations.

In addition to traditional postal services, the offices now provide public‑administration functions: issuance of birth certificates, INPS pension slips, the “Certificazione Unica” and the “OBIS M” model, as well as passport application and delivery without a visit to the police headquarters. Several locations also host electric‑vehicle charging stations; the Mantova province already has 25 active chargers, contributing to the national total of more than 3,200 points, with a goal of 5,000 by 2026.

The project is financed by €800 million from Italy’s PNRR complement and €400 million contributed by Poste Italiane, aiming to strengthen social and economic cohesion in small communities while promoting digital and green transitions.
