Regional commemorations honor victims of historical conflicts
Various commemorative events and memorial unveilings are taking place across Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Slovenia to honor victims of past conflicts.
In Čanak, a renovated monument was unveiled to honor Croatian defenders and civilian victims of the Homeland War, specifically those lost in December 1991 and during Operation Storm in 1995. Members of the Association of Volunteers and Veterans of the Homeland War of Primorsko-Goranska County attended the ceremony to pay respects to fallen soldiers such as Marino Cvetković and Dr. Jurica Ivko.
Other regional observances include the 35th anniversary of the liberation of the Slatina barracks, the 35th anniversary of the formation of the 204th Brigade in Vukovar, and the 35th anniversary of the capture of the JNA barracks in Rogoznica and Zečevo. In Slovenia, a ceremony in Ranče marked the 82nd anniversary of the deaths of six partisans, with Zdenka Črešnik of the Association of Fighters from Fram emphasizing the importance of passing these historical memories to younger generations.
Additional commemorations were noted in Posušje, Kupres, Međuvije, and Lišani Ostrovički, where monuments were dedicated to victims of the Homeland War, World War II, and other historical tragedies.
