Potenza rolls out major road upgrade and citywide 30 km/h zones

The Basilicata regional government announced a €14.4 million upgrade of the Serrapotina road in the southern part of Potenza province. The project, part of a €45 million fund for municipal road works, aims to improve safety and mobility for residents and businesses, linking the towns of Chiaromonte, Calvera, Carbone, Castronuovo Sant’Andrea, Fardella, Senise and Teana. Regional Development Assessor Francesco Cupparo highlighted the commitment of President Vito Bardi and Infrastructure Vice‑President Pasquale Pepe to accelerate the programme, describing the road as “strategic for the future of the area”.

Separately, the Potenza municipal administration issued an ordinance to create “Zone 30” speed limits in a series of neighbourhoods, including Macchia Romana, Poggio Tre Galli, Verderuolo, San Rocco and the historic centre. The measure, part of the Sustainable Mobility Urban Plan, is intended to cut traffic accidents, protect vulnerable road users and promote walking and cycling. Mayor Vincenzo Telesca said the zones will be supported by traffic‑calming devices such as speed bumps and raised crosswalks, enhancing overall city safety.
