Power Outages Disrupt Communities in Honduras and Guatemala

The Honduran National Electricity Company (ENEE) announced scheduled power cuts for Monday, 8 June 2026, affecting multiple neighborhoods, hotels, a hospital, a naval base and the Honduran Port Authority in Puerto Cortés. The interruptions, required for preventive maintenance and network upgrades, will impact residential, commercial and public‑service users for much of the day.

In Guatemala, a fire broke out in the Huehuetenango sub‑station of the Instituto Nacional de Electrificación (INDE) on the same day, causing an outage across the sub‑stations of Huehuetenango, Paquix, San Juan Ixcoy, Barillas and Ixtahuacán. Emergency crews and technical teams were deployed and nearby families were evacuated; no injuries were reported.

Both incidents left thousands without electricity and prompted authorities to advise residents to prepare for temporary service loss.
