Power Plant Fires Disrupt Electricity Supply in Madagascar and Chad

A fire broke out at the HFF power plant in Ambohimanambola on the outskirts of Antananarivo, Madagascar, causing the interconnection post for the RIA network to shut down. The outage left large parts of the capital without electricity for more than an hour before power was gradually restored by about 21:30. No injuries were reported and authorities have opened an investigation into the cause of the blaze.

In Chad, a blaze at the Farcha thermal power plant destroyed three generating units, reducing available capacity by an estimated 18‑21 MW. President Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno visited the scene and ordered that household electricity be prioritised, even if it required cutting supply to the presidential palace and other state institutions. The presidential complex switched to its own autonomous generators while efforts to restore full production continue.
