Power Rangers live-action reboot cancelled by Disney+
Disney+ has officially cancelled its planned live-action Power Rangers reboot, a project that had been in development for approximately eighteen months. The cancellation was reportedly driven by economic and contractual hurdles rather than creative differences. Specifically, Disney+ and its production studio do not own the franchise rights, which are held by Hasbro, making the financial structure of the production unsustainable for the streaming platform.
In response to the cancellation, the YouTube channel Ninja Kidz has released a free live-action series titled ‘Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Return’. The production, which features martial arts combat and original storytelling, has received official approval from Playmates, the publisher of new Power Rangers toys. The series serves as an homage to the original franchise and aims to engage the fan community following the halt of the major studio reboot.
