Powerball jackpot climbs to $856 million for Saturday drawing
No ticket matched all six numbers in the August 5 Powerball drawing, leaving the $786 million jackpot unclaimed and rolling it forward. The prize is now estimated at $856 million for the Saturday, August 8 drawing, making it the eighth‑largest jackpot in the game’s history. The cash‑value option is about $372 million.
A ticket sold in Ohio matched the five white balls and won the $1 million second‑tier prize. Over one million tickets have been sold nationwide for the upcoming draw. The Multi‑State Lottery Association noted that the jackpot’s growth is fueled by continued rollovers and expanding player bases.
Powerball tickets are now also sold in the United Kingdom for the first time, following an agreement with Allwyn UK, the operator of the UK National Lottery. The game remains available in 45 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The odds of hitting the jackpot remain 1 in 292 million.
