Powerball winner claims $1.04 billion jackpot in Illinois
An anonymous lottery player has claimed a $1.04 billion Powerball jackpot, the largest of the year and the eighth largest in the game's history. The winning ticket was purchased for $2 using a Quick Pick option at a Hy-Vee Gas Fresh & Fast store in Quincy, Illinois.
The winner opted to receive a single lump-sum cash payment, estimated at $450.5 million before taxes, rather than the 30-year annuity option. The retailer where the ticket was sold is set to receive a $500,000 bonus for selling the winning numbers.
