Poznań honors artist and patriot Dora Mukułowska
The city of Poznań is paying tribute to Dora Mukułowska, a versatile artist and patriot who played a significant role during the Greater Poland Uprising. Mukułowska was part of the first generation of professional female artists from Poznań, having studied in Wrocław, Vienna, and Paris at the prestigious Académie de la Grande Chaumière.
Her artistic career achieved international recognition, with works exhibited in cities such as Warsaw, Krakow, Prague, and Paris. One of her notable successes was the painting ‘Lady on the Street’, which earned a silver medal at a Parisian salon.
Beyond her art, Mukułowska was deeply involved in educational and patriotic activities. She taught in secret Polish schools and supported independence initiatives. During the Greater Poland Uprising, she contributed to political efforts by designing the seal for the Supreme People's Council and preparing decorations for the Polish District Sejm. She also demonstrated organizational leadership by initiating a revolutionary postal service to deliver letters and packages to soldiers.
