Poznań offers free carbon monoxide detectors to municipal tenants

The Poznań Municipal Housing Resources Management (ZKZL) is continuing its long-standing program to distribute free carbon monoxide detectors to tenants of municipal housing. The initiative specifically targets residents in properties at higher risk of poisoning, such as those using coal stoves or gas water heaters.

To receive a device, tenants must confirm their status at the ZKZL Customer Service Office on Matejki Street or at one of five field service points. The program has been active for over a decade, with nearly 3,000 detectors distributed to date.

Local officials emphasized that while detectors provide vital early warnings, they do not replace the need for regular maintenance. Residents are urged to conduct annual inspections of gas boilers and maintain clean chimneys and ventilation grates. This safety push follows data showing that firefighters in the Greater Poland region responded to 439 carbon monoxide-related incidents between January and September 2026.
