Poznań police clear protesters during Maltańskie Estate eviction

Tensions escalated in the Maltańskie Estate in Poznań as police and bailiffs attempted to carry out an eviction of a long-term resident. Dozens of protesters, including activists, attempted to block access to the property by forming barricades, sitting near walls, and climbing onto nearby roofs.

Police officers used shields to push back demonstrators to clear a path for the bailiff. While protesters shouted slogans such as “Maltańskie zostaje” (Malta remains) and “Hańba” (Shame), police stated they were acting on the bailiff's request to ensure the legal process could proceed and to maintain safety. An anti-conflict team was deployed to manage the rising emotions.

The dispute follows the sale of the estate by the Archdiocese of Poznań to the developer JHM Development, a member of the Mirbud group, for 421 million PLN. The developer plans to construct approximately 2,000 apartments on the site. The resident facing eviction has lived in the area since 1993.
