Poznań to Build Civil Protection Shelters in Nine Schools and Kindergartens
The city of Poznań has selected nine education facilities – seven schools and two kindergartens – to be converted into Obiekty Zbiorowej Ochrony (Civil Protection shelters). The project is being carried out by Poznańskie Inwestycje Miejskie, which has already signed contracts for the design work.
Funding of 74.5 million zł has been allocated from the Population Protection and Civil Defense programme. Deputy mayor Marcin Gołek said, “Safety of Poznań residents is our priority,” and highlighted that the refurbishments will also serve everyday needs when not in emergency use. The selected buildings include: II Liceum Zamoyskiej, Szkoła Podstawowa nr 9 Witaszka, XII Liceum Skłodowskiej‑Curie, Szkoła Podstawowa nr 71 Kusocińskiego, Szkoła Podstawowa nr 13 Cytadelowcy, VII Liceum Dąbrówki, Zespół Szkół nr 8, Przedszkole nr 29 „Plastusia” and Przedszkole nr 39 „Leśne Ludki”.
Design documentation is being prepared to meet the U‑1 category requirements of the 2024 shelter law, ensuring protection against blast effects, falling debris and small‑calibre fire‑arms. Initial documentation covers four sites, with construction to commence once financing and necessary permits are secured.
