Poznań unveils obelisk honoring painter Dora Mukułowska
An obelisk was unveiled at the Górczyn cemetery in Poznań on October 25, marking the 80th anniversary of the death of Teodora (Dora) Mukułowska. The monument serves as a cenotaph, as her exact burial site within the cemetery remains unknown.
The ceremony included a mass at the Church of Our Lady of Sorrows, followed by a procession to the cemetery. Attendees included the artist's family, local government officials, representatives from cultural and memory institutions, and a historical reenactment group. The event was organized by the ‘Ławka nr 4’ Women's Club from Pleszew, the Institute of National Remembrance in Poznań, and the City and Commune of Pleszew.
Mukułowska was a painter, educator, and social activist who participated in the Greater Poland Uprising. She received formal training in Wrocław, Vienna, and at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where she earned a silver medal in 1912. Following her return to the Greater Poland region, she became deeply involved in local cultural and patriotic life.
