Pozzuoli earthquake relief efforts intensify for displaced residents
Following the seismic activity in the Campi Flegrei region on July 31 and August 1, emergency response efforts are intensifying in Pozzuoli. More than 3,600 people have been displaced, with 143 currently staying in hotels and 53 in the Palatrincone facility. Regional Councilor Fiorella Zabatta has clarified that there is no mandatory deadline for hotel guests to vacate their rooms, countering rumors regarding an August 31 cutoff.
The Caritas diocesana of Pozzuoli, supported by the director of Caritas Italiana, Marco Pagniello, has launched a new Listening Center to address the housing emergency. This center will provide professional support from lawyers, psychologists, and counselors to assist vulnerable populations, including the elderly and disabled, who face rising rents and loss of employment.
Local and regional authorities are coordinating relief, including the distribution of Autonomous Accommodation Contributions (CAS). Meanwhile, various community organizations and political groups have initiated donation drives for essential goods such as food, hygiene products, and blankets to support those in need.
