Pozzuoli faces crisis from seismic activity and wildfires
The city of Pozzuoli is facing a growing crisis due to ongoing seismic activity. Recent tremors, including a magnitude 4.7 earthquake on July 31, have led to significant displacement. Reports indicate that over 3,300 people have been displaced, with hundreds of families evacuated or forced to leave their homes following numerous administrative orders.
The geological instability is impacting local infrastructure and daily life. Many schools face partial or total closures, and local businesses are struggling to remain operational. There are also concerns regarding the reliability of public transportation, specifically the Cumana and Metropolitana lines, and the effectiveness of new infrastructure projects intended to mitigate the crisis.
In addition to the seismic concerns, a wildfire recently broke out in the Parco Russo area of Pozzuoli. The fire spread quickly due to weather conditions, prompting emergency responses from firefighters and law enforcement. Some residents were forced to temporarily evacuate their homes as smoke and flames approached residential zones.
