The Italian government approved a €100 million emergency fund to address the aftermath of the magnitude‑4.7 earthquake that struck the Campi Flegrei area on 31 July 2026. The package includes contributions for autonomous settlement, an increase of the state share of seismic‑retrofit costs to 70 %, and accelerated technical inspections – 227 inspections have been carried out, with 1 182 verification requests submitted. About 700 residents have been displaced; 568 have found autonomous accommodation while 128 remain in hotels.

Protests have erupted in Pozzuoli, where roughly a thousand residents blocked the port to demand faster housing aid, water supply and clearer evacuation plans. The demonstrations have been attended by local mayors, the regional president Roberto Fico, and interior minister Matteo Piantedosi, who chaired a coordination meeting in the Naples prefecture. UniCredit has also announced temporary suspension of mortgage payments for affected families.

The response is being overseen by civil‑protection minister Nello Musumeci and prime minister Giorgia Meloni, who have pledged continued monitoring and additional resources if needed.
