PSOE Calls for Villarrobledo Mayor’s Resignation Amid Guardia Civil Registry Probe
The Castilla‑La Mancha branch of Spain’s Socialist Party demanded that regional PP leader Paco Núñez ask the mayor of Villarrobledo, Valentín Bueno, to resign after the Guardia Civil searched the town hall as part of a criminal investigation into alleged irregularities in the municipal population register. The probe focuses on a sudden increase of roughly 1,000 residents between 2025‑2026 and on suspicions that foreign‑national registrations were processed without meeting legal requirements, raising concerns of possible fraud and prior allegations of election‑process tampering.
Socialist spokesperson Sergio García‑Navas said, “Paco Núñez must ask for the mayor’s resignation,” characterising Villarrobledo as the “zero zone of bad practices.” In response, Vox councilors from the town claimed there was no raid, urging “prudence, seriousness and veracity” and quoting spokesperson José Luis Jiménez: “It is not true that the Guardia Civil has registered the town hall.” The party emphasised that the investigation is judicial, pending a judge’s decision, and warned against premature accusations while awaiting the legal outcome.
