Prabowo Subianto seeks direct Indonesia-Russia connectivity and strategic investments

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto is seeking to strengthen economic ties with Russia through enhanced connectivity and strategic investments following his attendance at the 11th Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok.

During his visit, President Prabowo proposed the establishment of direct shipping and flight routes between Indonesia and Russia to improve logistics and predictability. He emphasized the need to transition bilateral relations from personal trust to institutional cooperation, supported by reliable payment systems and clear regulations.

Key economic developments include a memorandum of understanding signed by Pupuk Indonesia to conduct a joint study on building a urea plant in Vladivostok, leveraging the city's strategic Pacific location. Additionally, President Vladimir Putin has offered cooperation in the maritime sector, specifically proposing advanced fishing vessels exceeding 102 meters in length to support Indonesia's fisheries management.
