Prague Airport restores main runway as regional rail faces cuts
Prague Airport is set to resume operations on its main runway (06/24) following a two-year modernization program. The project, which involved extensive closures and the use of a secondary runway, included the installation of nearly 600 LED runway lights, 160 kilometers of cabling, and the reconstruction of approximately 55,000 square meters of taxiways. The value of this year's projects near the main runway is approximately 1 billion CZK, part of a larger 3.4 billion CZK annual investment plan.
Separately, the Central Bohemian Region is facing a potential crisis in railway transport. Regional officials have discussed the possibility of canceling or significantly reducing service on nine railway lines to address budget deficits caused by the pandemic and declining ticket revenues. Discussions involve balancing necessary cost savings with the impact on public mobility and the rising costs of the Prague Integrated Transport (PID) tariff.
