Czech road works disrupt traffic in Prague and Přerov

In Prague, a series of major road repairs began early summer, including the reconstruction of Kbelská Street, a key arterial route that substitutes the unfinished outer ring. The works, running from July to the end of the year, will reduce each direction to a single lane and close several side streets, prompting the deployment of emergency vehicles to keep emergency services flowing. Drivers are warned of delays of up to 30 minutes and advised to use marked detours.

In the eastern city of Přerov, heavy truck traffic that used local streets before the opening of the D1 highway has left numerous roads badly damaged. The municipal and regional road authorities plan repairs, but a contractor withdrew from the project scheduled to start on 11 June, delaying the work. The most severe issue is the deteriorating Legií bridge, which will require a months‑long reconstruction. Authorities are coordinating detours and aim to complete the most critical fixes while preventing further traffic collapse.

Both cities anticipate prolonged congestion as the projects progress, with traffic management measures and public communications in place to mitigate the impact on commuters and freight operators.
