Prague implements climate plan and adaptation investments
Prague is working toward ambitious climate goals established in 2019, which aim to reduce CO2 emissions by at least 45 percent compared to 2010 levels by 2030, with a target of climate neutrality by 2050. The city's climate plan involves an estimated investment volume of approximately 231 billion CZK, with 32.3 billion CZK allocated to Prague and its municipal districts.
Since 2020, the city has invested over 605 million CZK into climate adaptation measures. These funds have primarily supported the revitalization of public spaces, parks, and gardens, as well as the implementation of water elements in urban areas. While annual investment levels fluctuated, with higher spending between 2020 and 2022, officials note that recent shifts reflect a focus on project quality and better preparation by municipal districts.
Additionally, the 'Clean Energy Prague' program supports housing cooperatives and owners' associations. For the 2026–2027 period, 50 million CZK has been allocated for projects such as heating system transformations, solar thermal installations, and green roofs. The program has shifted its focus from local heating modernization to broader greenhouse gas reduction, as transportation now accounts for approximately 93 percent of the city's air pollution.
