Czech Republic climate adaptation and investment
Overview
The Czech government has approved the ‘National Action Plan for Climate Change Adaptation for the period 2026–2030’. This plan involves a state commitment of 34 billion CZK over five years, supplemented by 49 billion CZK in European funds, to address environmental challenges such as drought and heat through measures like urban cooling infrastructure.
In alignment with these broader goals, Prague is pursuing climate neutrality by 2050 and aims to reduce CO2 emissions by at least 45 percent compared to 2010 levels by 2030. The city’s climate plan involves an estimated investment of approximately 231 billion CZK, with 32.3 billion CZK allocated to Prague and its municipal districts.
Since 2020, Prague has invested over 605 million CZK into adaptation measures, focusing on the revitalization of parks, public spaces, and urban water elements. Additionally, the ‘Clean Energy Prague’ program has allocated 50 million CZK for the 2026–2027 period to support projects such as solar thermal installations, green roofs, and heating system transformations.
