Prague launches crisis volunteer network to boost city resilience

The City of Prague, in collaboration with the Prague 1 Regional Branch of the Czech Red Cross, is launching the ‘Prague Crisis Volunteer’ project. The initiative aims to establish a network of trained citizens who can be deployed to assist during extraordinary events such as extreme weather, technical accidents, health threats, utility outages, or cyber incidents.

To manage and coordinate this network, the city will utilize a digital platform via the Sinch application. This will allow for rapid communication and efficient mobilization of volunteers in alignment with crisis management needs. Prague Mayor Bohuslav Svoboda emphasized that while the city has professional emergency services, the assistance of prepared citizens is vital for community resilience. Markéta Štalmachová, director of the Prague City Hall security department, noted that the project focuses on systematic community building, continuous training, and clear coordination to ensure residents can effectively help one another during emergencies.
