Prague replaces bus line 131 with trolleybuses
After more than sixty years of service, Prague bus line 131 has been officially decommissioned and replaced by trolleybus line 51. The transition took place on October 31, following a farewell event organized by the Prague 6 district and the Prague Public Transit Company.
The new trolleybus service maintains the same route between Hradčanská and Bořislavka, as well as the existing stops and service intervals. According to Ondřej Matěj Hrubeš, a Prague 6 transport councilor, the primary benefits of the switch are quieter operation and the elimination of exhaust fumes in the Hanspaulka area.
To mark the occasion, the transit company deployed several historical vehicles, including a Škoda 706 RTO, Karosa B951E, and Irisbus Citybus, for special runs on the final day of the bus line. Residents and transit enthusiasts gathered along the route to witness the transition and take commemorative photographs.
