Prague public transport electrification
Overview
Prague has begun a transition to replace specific bus routes with electric trolleybus services as part of a citywide initiative to reduce noise and emissions, particularly on the western side of the Vltava River.
On October 31, bus line 131 was decommissioned after more than sixty years of service and replaced by trolleybus line 51, which maintains the same route between Hradčanská and Bořislavka. Local officials noted that the switch aims to eliminate exhaust fumes in the Hanspaulka area and provide quieter operation.
To commemorate the transition, the Prague Public Transit Company and the Prague 6 district organized special rides featuring historical vehicles, such as the Škoda 706 RTO, Karosa B951E, and Irisbus Citybus.
